Blaylock, Ex-NBA Guard, Wounded In Crash; 1 Killed

Ex-NBA All Star guard “Mookie” Daron Blaylock was in serious condition a hospital on Friday after his SUV crossed the middle line and crashed into a van in Atlanta suburban, lethally injuring the rider in the van, a police reported.

Police Chief Franklin Allen reported late Friday that Monica Murphy (43-year-old), a passenger riding in the van, died before 10 PM. Allen said that her husband, Frankie Murphy (41-year-old) suffered from a broken ankle. He was released from the hospital after he went through treatment. Blaylock was placed at the hospital on life support. While the reports from Atlanta Journal Constitution state that the ex-NBA star’s condition improved on Friday night and he was taken off of life support.

Allen reported to WSB-TV in Atlanta that the start has a history of attacks or seizures and that the police was investigating whether or not a seizure might have caused the accident. The 46 year old Blaylock was a professional draft pick of the New Jersey Nets of out Oklahoma in the year 1989.He played with the Atlanta Hawks between the years 1992 and 1999. He appeared in the NBA All Star game in 1994 and did his best during the season in 1996 and 1997 averaging 5.9 assists and 17.4 points.

In 13 NBA season with Atlanta, Golden State, and also New Jersey he averages 6.2 assists and 13.5 points .On Friday night the Hawks tweeted that their thought are with Blaylock, who was in the hospital that night after experiencing a car crash.

If it is determined that Blaylock caused the accident, the Murphy family has a claim against Blaylock for the death of the passenger.
